, Colombia is a country in South America. It has great beaches. I loved spending time there. There were so many cool things to see and we made a lot of friends.. SOUTHERN COLOMBIA We stayed by this lake which had a fun kids playground with pull sleds and this cool see saw. My Mum and I used the see saw as a boat in our game of pirates. In the morning I got to see cows being milked. STRANGE THINGS WE SAW In one town we drove through we saw this ant statue in the window of a building. INTERESTING INSECTS AND ANIMALS We saw a lot of really interesting animals and insects along the way. We went to a hummingbird sanctuary where we saw a lot of hummingbirds. I stood really close to them and they didn't seem to mind. We also saw this hummingbird nest with 2 eggs in it. The eggs were really tiny. This millipede was on our path when we were hiking in Tayrona National Park. He had so many legs. The caterpillars were funny to watch because they kept crawling on top of eachother. These are leaf cutter ants. They bite off pieces of leaves and carry them back to their home. The size of the leaf pieces were sometimes bigger than the ants themselves. FOSSILS AND DINOSAURS We went to a museum of dinosaur fossils and also found fossils on one of our walks. There were road signs near the museum with dinosaurs on them. Below is the huge Kronosaurus fossil found in this area. Kronosaurus' lived in the ocean. Below is my drawing of a kronosaurus. CHOCOLATE SHOP At Villa de Leyva, they had a chocolate shop that had a beautiful statue of a golden girl out the front. I would have liked to try on her dress. PLAYING WITH FRIENDS I met a lot of other kids in Colombia. Inti, and Sammy spoke English and lived at a campsite with goats. I caught toads with them. I also had a sleepover with them in beds in a dome tent. We watched movies together. One of the goats head butted me and the scar is still there. Another time I watched movies with some local girls in a small village. HALLOWEEN We celebrated Halloween when we were at the beach. My friend Mario made me jack 'o latterns from coconuts. One was a monster and one was a minion. Miranda and I, (my friend) dressed up as fairy princesses and went "trick or treating". We got a lot of yummy candy. SCHOOL AND ARTWORK Mum and I do some school work together. Sometimes don't like it, but we get to do school in some cool places. We even got to do it in a painted bus that was a sitting and TV area. One day at the campsite at the beach, I helped paint a trash girl on the trash bin area. MERMAIDS We made Miranda and I into mermaids, burying us ion the sand and then covering us over and adding rocks for the scales, and coconut shells for bikini tops. It was fun! My favorite things about Colombia were going to the museums, seeing the statues, playing on the beach and making new friends. It has been a long time since my last blog, but sometimes we don't have internet and if we do I like to watch movies. In Peru and Ecuador, two of the countries we have visited, I got to hang out with many differet animals, including kittens, a lot of dogs and lamas too. I even saved a mouse from a cat that was trying to eat him. We got to visit many cool places too. I loved going to the ruins and seeing the artifacts and mummies in the museums. But the mummies freak me out! They have been wrapped in cloth and put in tombs, sometimes inside temples. I liked seeing Machu Picchu too, that is a famous Inca ruin in the Andes Moountains.. We also took a flight over the Nasca lines, these lines made by the ancient tribes in the desert. I liked the alien best. I have seen a lot of really cool bugs and butterflies on the trip. I love to pick them up and look at them. I have a bug app on the iPad, so I can learn about the bugs I see. Along the way we do cool crafts using things we find in the forest or gardens. I like to make potions too. We visited an animal sanctuary in the Amazon jungle. They have lots of different animals there, including ocelots, monkeys, turtles, crocodiles, toucans, and other parrots. The people there take in hurt animals, and try to put them back into the jungle when they are well again. They also have animals there who can't go back into the wild. They have usually been pets of local people but the local people abandon them or can no longer take care of them when they get bigger. It is sad because quite often the wings of the birds are clipped and they can no longer fly. I have started doing an hour of school with my Mum and Dad each day. We do math, and learn my letters, but I also get to do a lot of fun play stuff too. Here are some other photos I wanted to put in. I really love travelling but I miss my friends back in the U.S. I would love to hear back from everyone. Make a comment please. Love and cuddles (I still like those, and of course chocoolate) Keira ps: And Dad still makes Saturday pancakes Wow, we have done so many things since my last blog. Our internet has been slow so it is hard to download photos when that happens. Below are some photos of Santiago. I got my photo taken with a mime all dressed in white. She was a street performer. We also visited a museum that had cool artifacts. I liked the gold jewellery and the feather headdresses the best. They even had child mummies. They freak me out. We went to a park which was an area where they have discovered dinosaur fossils. We saw this cool rock formation that looked like pinocchio, and these balls of rock that were made from pressure in the earth. There were also fossils there like this one of a leaf. At another museum we saw petroglyphs just like the ones in New Mexico. The holes in the rock were holes used to grind things like wheat and corn. The inca, the ancient people would use stones to grind the wheat. Here are some photos of the animals we have seen. Vicunas are like lamas, only smaller. We have seen alot of foxes and lamas runing wild in different areas. We visited a goat farm where they made goats cheese, and we got to pat the goats. We have also seen a lot of flamingos in the wild too. They live on the lakes. We got to see 3 different types. Here I am sniffing the flowers in Cafayate. I like to pick them all the time. My Mum and Dad allow me to pick one flower a day, so there can still be some left for other people to enjoy. In the other photo, I am with my friend Laura and we are making a potion. I hope one day to make a potion that will turn the world into chocolate ice cream! These photos are taken in the desert of Argentina. This cactus looked so furry and soft but it was really prickly. We saw lots of chilli peppers drying just like in New Mexico. Everywhere I go I try out the slides at the playgrounds, and I make friends with the local kids. Below is a photo of my friends in Tilcara. These photos are from San Pedro area in Chile. We met an Aussie family and I played with Edward and Nina. Edward and I are looking for brine shrimp in a pool of water. When we were in San Pedro it snowed in the mountains. I collected snow off our friends vehicle. The last photo is of me in our roof top tent. Here are some photos of the salt lake. We had so much fun doing funny photos. I met some great local girls to play with. Hope you like all the photos. I pick the photos out and Mum helps me write about them.
By the way, I am still working on my goal of eating chocolate in every country! Hola. We have done so many things since my last blog. We went to the beach, did an easter egg hunt in the sand dunes, and did craft projects. Here are some photos. In a small town in Chile we found a statue of Scrat and this statue of a fish made from plastic bottles. In Barioloche, I made a rock castle with my mum. We made fairies out of roses and berries. We went to a cool dinosaur and fossil museum too. And we ate chocolate! Here is a picture of me on a chairlift which we took to the top of a mountain. This is me dipping strawberries in chocolate, it is called fondue. It is very delicious. These are monkey puzzle trees or their real name is Araucaria angustifolia. Mum and I looked them up on the internet. They named them monkey puzzle trees because they thought monkeys would have difficulty climbing them becasuse they are so spiky, but I think it is because their branches look like monkeys tails and the bark looks like puzzles. I was at a farm of friends who invited us to stay. They had 2 donkeys and 2 lamas, and I rode one of the donkeys. I got ashed on by a volcano that erupted. I slept on a dog, named Delhi. I fed the lamas and donkeys hay and chestnuts. Carina fed another lama called Mapu who sometimes spat, lamas sometimes do that. The other lama Dalai always kissed me, sniffed my hair and we always cuddled her. We are meeting cool people. I love Jeff, Kaj and Carina who we have been travelling with. We separated now and I miss them, but hopefully we meet up with them again. We are now heading north in Argentina and going to Iguazu falls.
Love and cuddles to everyone, especially to James. Eventhough I am travelling I still get to do cool stuff like painting, drawing, and I even get ipad time to play my games. We do some school like stuff too. The difference is that I do it all outside. We often do projects with things we find in nature. My Dad and I did this dinosaur. These are cool things we have found. I call these leaves "big 4 leaf clovers". They are huge. We saw these yellow mushrooms and this purple mushroom in a rainforest. We see lots of insects too, like dragonflies, dung beetles, butterflies, and caterpillars I get to meet new people all the time. Everyday I play with dogs and cats we see along our way.
Thanks for my birthday wishes. I had a great birthday. cuddles Keira
